Software enhancements

In addition to the new hardware design I described on Sunday, we’ve also been making a lot of changes in our software incorporating feedback we’ve received from our road testers. A major focus has been around how we can continue to integrate all of our connected features in the device in order to create an easy-to-use product and service that has daily relevance for our customers. We’ve also taken this opportunity to continue to add connected features to the device, while being careful not to complicate the interface with features that are not related to giving consumers the information they need in their cars. We won’t announce the full feature set until closer to our launch, but to give you a sneak peak, following are some of the improvements:

  • A higher contrast interface optimized for use in a car
  • A QWERTY keyboard (instead of the previous ABC keyboard)
  • More map functionality so you can quickly get more info without having to dig deep into menus (for instance, simply touch the compass symbol on the map to toggle between 2D and 3D maps)
  • Faster responding and easier to read maps
  • A new “track up” view for the 2D map
