Why does it feel like Dec 25th?
Today driving into work it felt like it was Christmas morning - Why? Because our first batch of preproduction devices arrived this morning from the factory!

They would have been here yesterday but customs at SFO seemed to want to play with them a few more days - can’t blame them really. We’re sending everyone home with two to test over the weekend in anticipation of sending out our first batch of beta devices next week. The main thing we’re looking for at this point is not what’s wrong but rather what’s different from device to device as factory batches should be identical. Tomorrow while everyone else on the road will be using their one GPS to get directions to crazy Uncle Ed’s new house, Dash employees will be staring at the new ‘geek screen’ (the one that shows the level of each GPS satellite) on two devices to see if they differ. Or we’ll be constantly searching for the same thing on Yahoo to test connectivity, much to the annoyance of our family in the car, which means we may accidentally miss exit 22 - but maybe if we’re a little bit late arriving all of Aunt Edna’s ambrosia will be gone…I can only dream.

Any way you need more beta testers?

Ooh, is there a review unit in there for me?!

KevinH, I believe the public beta test is over, but I dunno. I’d love to be a beta tester myself, as I drive quite a bit from San Diego to Riverside (and beyond.) I applied for the beta testing program forever ago, but didn’t get accepted.

You seem to have so many, can I have one? =)
Glad to see Dash is making good progress. I’ve been in love with the idea ever since I heard of it. Wish I could have made it into the beta.

Looks like some excellent progress! And like everyone else, if you need a beta tester on the East coast, let me know!

We finished up our field test with the 2000 prototype devices. We’ll be doing a more limited beta on these pre-production devices before our commercial launch next year. We’re all set with testers for this phase and expect to have review units closer to the commercial launch.

I share your enthusiasm, craigs list is cool, and was ambrosia ever any good?

Don’t hurt yourself fiddling with the GPS while driving. Missing “exit 22″ is one thing; driving into a concrete bridge abutment, quite another. Besides, one of those two units you’re using might be the one that ends up on my dash after I place my order…and then promptly drive into a concrete bridge abutment.

The product sounds great and something that is sorely missing in today’s crazy traffic jammed highways.
Are there any plans in the hopefully very near future to offer the service to Canadian customers?
